A US soldier has been charged with assault after allegedly waterboarding his four-year-old daughter, police in the state of Washington have said.
Sgt Joshua Tabor dunked the girl’s head in a sink full of water for not reciting the alphabet, police in the town of Yelm said.
Waterboarding is an interrogation technique that simulates drowning and has been banned as torture by the US.
Sgt Tabor is a helicopter repairer who served in Iraq from 2007-08.
Yelm police chief Todd Stancil said Sgt Tabor was arrested on 31 January.
Officers were called after Sgt Tabor was seen walking around his neighbourhood holding a Kevlar helmet and threatening to break windows, the police chief added.
The girl was then found hiding in a locked bathroom in the soldier’s home, Mr Stancil said on Monday.
Sgt Tabor posted bail of $10,000 (£6,400) on Monday and has been confined to barracks at his base in Washington state.

Iraq War Vets Return; Some Have No Home
by Libby Lewis
All Things Considered, October 27, 2006 · National Guard Cpl. Joe Raicaldo is home from Iraq with things he didn’t have when he left: an honorable discharge, metal rods and screws up and down his spine, and an arm that moves like a robot’s. He’s also homeless, living in his car. There are at least 600 recent vets who are homeless.
Raicaldo’s story is one that tells how hard it is going to be to weave some of America’s warriors back into the fabric of home.

I came across the poem that has been causing a lot of stir in Pakistan. It is amazing to just try to understand that the Ministry of Education will look at provoking the public in such a manner. Pakistanis don’t feel very high about USA and then the policies of the current establishment have not helped in improving its image with War in Iraq and Afghanistan. To make the matters worse the government of Pakistan decided to add this poem to the syllabi of the 11 grade student. One thing they don’t realize is that the high school students are the most emotionally charged and explosive among the different groups in Pakistan. They are at the forefront of all demonstrations and such activities.
The poem if included maybe in the earlier grades might not have caused such uproar but it had to be included in the books for the grade 11. I don’t know what the education ministry was thinking. Maybe they had the thought of testing the public. “Let’s see if this Poem will piss the Pakistani people off”.
What should we expect next a poem about Israel. I am sure that will get the people’s attention.
