Intelligence not required

I am a bad exam taker; I have had times when I have left exams without writing a single word on the paper because I couldn’t BS my way through it. I have always been in awe of people who are able to do exams and score well. I don’t know what my problem is but it surely is a problem. I have been struggling with a preliminary exam for some time. This December the window into that exam will close also and might never open again. If I fail that exam then I am done with the PhD or lets say that the school is done with me (I wouldn’t give up that quickly).

I remember the days during FSc exams in Pakistan, people would spend less time and effort but master the technique of copy paste onto the paper materials from the book, and on the other hand I would make sincere efforts to understand the materials. The outcome was that I couldn’t get admission into any university. Well by gone be bygones and I am not worried about it anymore but this PhD exam is killing me, the fear of failing it and losing that opportunity at the PhD has kept me awake at nights and even made me fear the exam so much that I don’t want to take it anymore. I know I have to but in the back of my mind I know that I will fail it.

I don’t consider myself a loser or bad at learning, in fact I absorb a lot of information every day, reading/watching and exploring everything from everyday life to internet. I would even consider myself more informed than an average person and even quite a few PhD’s I know or knew. Maybe the problem is that I love to learn everything and can’t just give them up to focus on one thing. Take today for an example, from reading about the Boston mob boss who got arrested last week to mayhem in Libya, Sony cancelling start wars galaxy to some physicist make a glorified jack hammer to create fusion for greener times and so on. I even sometimes make the effort to go on Wikipedia and read and learn about things that I might have read as part of something else. But I guess these are all the tasks of normal people and not the super smarts that do PhDs. If that is the case then I can’t help it. I am fine with a masters but if it not then I should find a way to pass this Damm exam.

I guess while I am on the page of ranting or complaining let me ask this question

“Why everyone talks about the over achievers, why no one talks about the rest of the people like anyone who is not a Ivy league graduate, born to the rich parents, spoon fed their careers and jobs …”

What about the rest of us who are trying and living everyday? I guess we will never know 🙂 Well as far as the exam is concerned Inshallah I will take my best shot at it and if I don’t pass it then it is the loss for the PhD program 🙂

Will write about it after I am done in December with the exam.

Democracy (What the Heck)

what does Democracy means, hmmm i dont feel like taking the meaning out of the Dictionary but it would be something along “right to elect leaders by the people” but guess what it is all wrong, it is a not true it actually is “Govt elected by the people which conforms to the ideology of the foreign super Powers”. now why would i say that, why would i torment the dead romans or Greeks who came up with this beautiful way of life, because it is a sham in these days, if you elect a govt which represent the people’s will but that doesn’t conform to the Ideas and foreign policy of the super power then it is not a democratic govt.

Hamas is an Example, they are elected but not accepted in the whole world, then on the other hand a forced democratic government like the Pakistani hand picked leaders by the military Leaders is accepted as the democratic government, same is true for Burma but it is not a Democracy but a Military Dictatorship and same goes for the Thais now. hmm i think we should put in every constitution of every country of the world that “After elections, the govt should get a Thumbs up or down from the super power of the world”, it might save the country a lot of chaos and bloodshed, which can occur when the super power decides to interfere and get a govt of their liking.

I can think of i guess every muslim friendly country to the west that has a dictatorship (Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Libya) but i guess the West only has problems with Iran, Syria and Somalia.

What double Standards!!

Get Real about AQ Khan

I knew some family friends who worked at the Kahuta Research Labs (KRL) or AQ Khan Labs. I remember every morning the Military Vans would come and take them to the KRL. The Street they lived on had quite a few Scientists from KRL living and the street had an ISI check post there to keep an eye on who came and who didn’t. These facilities were closely monitored and run by the Pakistani Military. Every step taken was either taken with the help of the military or under the military’s watchful eyes.

Then after the whole So Called AQ Khan ring was busted I started thinking how this guy can cause all this trouble. AQ Khan always had a military escort with him. He was also taken care of by the military. It is impossible for the Doctor to do anything on his own. What is very visible is that he took another fall for the nation as he did for the last so many years for Pakistan. He is a true hero and Pakistani military under the current dictator/president decided that was the best course of action to blame one man for something which he didn’t do. AQ Khan didn’t build the missiles for the personal use. They were built for the military who wanted them. He didn’t make the nukes so he can take them home. I am sure he was ordered by the military to acquire the missiles from North Korea and give them the know how of the nukes. Further he must have traveled thru China with the military’s knowing to North Korea. Iran and Libya must have been given the plans to ensure a nuclear capable Muslim block in the world.
We have to remember that Pakistan is the only Muslim country in the world to possess nukes. Iran might be on its way to be the second one but not yet. AQ Khan had always worked with the military on such issues. The military aircrafts carried all the personnel and engineers to nuclear sites. The access was controlled by the military, it is impossible to think that the top brass of the military didn’t know anything about what Dr AQ Khan was up to.

Other than that I like millions of Pakistanis think that AQ Khan is a national hero. Not for selling or getting the know how of nuclear program to other countries but for giving Pakistan the courage to be a nation who can stand up for herself. Whatever the west says or does about AQ Khan, I can guarantee that he will live in the hearts of the Pakistani people as the only Hero who was disgraced by the govt but not the People. It is said that his health is deteriorating these days but I pray Allah gives him a long life and give Pakistan many more like him. Ameen.
